Sarah was the daughter of Thomas and Anne Hooper, Massachusetts pre-loyalist settlers of the township of Annapolis. Sarah and Henry married soon after Henry arrived in Annapolis as one of the grantees in the grants of 1759 and 1765. She had previously been married to Ben Rumsey and already had children.
When Henry died suddenly, he left Sarah with a large family and no means of support. She wrote to Henry's elder brother, Sir George Munro of Cromerty, informing him of her condition. Sir George ordered his London agent to send Sarah forty pounds annually for the support and education of his nieces and nephews until they reached their majority or their mother remarried.
Eventually, Sarah made her home with her daughter, Sally Craeb. She is said to have been a very intelligent woman who lived to be quite old.

She and Thomas were married at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Bristol by Rev. John Usher.

Documentation has not been found for the marriage of Sarah Harriet Munro and Jeremiah Hidden Brown in church registers. According to the family Memoir she was married about 1823 at the age of 13 or 14. Jeremiah Brown was first a clerk in her Father's (William J. Munro) store in Caraquet. Her mother Sarah Sherar Munro refers to him as "my good friend" in papers relating to the Estate settlement of Wm J. Munro.

Sarah's husband, Wiley Gilmore, fought in the Civil War. He carried a bullet in his arm till the day he died in 1923. He had a twin brother, William, Jr.
A little over a month after she married, her father died. Since her mother had died about five years earlier and since she was the oldest child, she took her minor brothers and sisters (including her half brother, Walter) to live with her and her new husband. They are all shown as members of the same household on the Newton County, Mississippi census in 1870.
In 1872 Sarah and Wiley settled near Canton, Texas. They brought with them her siblings: Barney, Caroline, William, Julia, Blanche, and possibly Joseph.
