  Viletta is believed to have been 100% Cherokee Indian. According to the 1880 Wirt County census, she was living in the household of James Monroe and his mother, Hannah (Edwards) Monroe. She is listed as a domestic with a 5 year old child by the name of George Monroe. Her parents may have been on the "Trail of Tears" and went to Oklahoma territory.
