    Notes:

Robert was a loyal subject of King David I, and King Malcolm IV of Scotland. He assisted King Malcolm in his wars against his "unnatural subjects."

Family tradition says that Robert married Agnes, daughter of Angus Mor Macdonald IV, Lord of the Isles, but this is impossible as Angus Macdonald lived at least a century later. This is another hint that the dates in the early Munro history are set too far back in time. R.W. Munro believed that Robert was "more or less mythical".

Robert was buried in the Chanonry of Ross, which continued to be the family burying place for more than four hundred years.

  1. 4.  Anna MunroAnna Munro Descendancy chart to this point (3.Robert3, 2.Hugh2, 1.Unknown1) was born about 1120; and died.

    Notes:

"The Munro Tree (1734)" says Donald Munro of Foulis had a sister Anna who married Angus McDonald of Yla. This could not be the same Angus MacDonald of Ylla, Lord of the Isles who fought at Bannockburn in 1314, so this fact is questionable. Also, some references say Anna (also called Aine) was the sister of Donald Munro, the founder of the Clan Munro.

    Notes:

Donald is supposed to have built the tower of Foulis as early as 1154, during the life of his father.

In Donald's time, there was a lot of disorder and lawlessness in Ross. William the Lion came into that area with an army in 1179, to restore order. He caused two castles to be built, one at Etherdover called Redcastle, and the other at Nigg called Dunscath or Dunskaith - the castle of dread.

It is said that Donald Munro joined with the King while he was in Ross on this occasion and gave him material assistance in repressing the rebellion and lawlessness.

    R. W. Munro believed that Donald was "more or less mythical".
