Janet was the daughter of James and Margaret (Fraser) Cumming and a descendant of King Henry VII of England and Elizabeth of York, the daughter of King Edward IV of England.

The following is a transcription of RW Munro's genealogy notes:
«i»Alexander Munro of Katewell fl 1687/8 Son of David Munro of Katewell & Agnes Munro; described as David's eldest lawful son 15 Jan 1687, date of charter by Sir John Munro of Foulis under which Alexander was given Sasine of 2-1/2 oxgate lands of Katewell (David had been called 'portioner of Katewell' 1641); as Alexander of Katewell gave disposition of 2-1/2 oxgate lands of Katewell to George Dallas of St. Martins, W.S., 8 Sep 1688; MacKenzie says Alexander was tenant of Teachait & had at least 2 sons - George (Teachait & Kellaig) & John (d. 1724).

"Robert of Miltown of Catwell married Christane daughter to Alexr. Minister of Durness & had a Son and /blank/."
Married (1) John Mackay, eldest son of Murdoch Mackay of Achness. They had one son, William, who was Minister of Dornoch from 1690 to 1694 and of Cromdale from 1694 to 1700. John Mackay died shortly after the death of his son, William, and his widow, Christian, then married Robert Munro III of Milnton of Katewell.

9. | Hugh Munro (3.Janet3, 2.Margaret2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born about 1608; died in 1698 in Of, Durness, Scotland. Notes:

Hugh studied philosophy at the University of Aberdeen for a year. On 22 Dec 1653, he was admitted to the Gaelic bursary by the Presbytery of Dingwall. He received his M.A. degree in 1657.
On 20 Jan 1663, Hugh succeeded his father as minister of Durness, having been appointed by the Presbytery of Caithness.
He died in 1698, after 36 years of service in Durness.
