    [Alexander Munro] «i»Son of Andrew Munro (d. 1803) and Betty Ross; born (1793), probably at Ordan, Swordale, Creich, Sutherland; became a manufacturer and prospered; with brother John (1791-1837), interested in Gaelic literature; authority on metric system, consulted by Sir George Cornwell Lewis when endeavors were being made to press its adoption on the attention of Parliament; survived brother and gave John Mackenzie particulars for his short account in "Beauties of Gaelic Poetry"; died Millport 14 March 1864, aged 67, having married Christina Ross (died Millport 16 July 1874, aged 73); daughter Elizabeth married Robert Neilson (he died 7 September 1878, aged 53, she died 19 September 1880, aged 50, their daughter Williamina Barton Neilson born 10 October 1867, died 28 October 1891), Son John Ross Munro (fl 1864).
