(Medical):In 1955, while working at Federal Mogul in Saint Johns, Michigan, George was injured in an explosion which occured when he poured waste material into the machine he was operating. The waste had been placed into the container by another employee and had been mislabeled as "Good". George was almost killed, but he dropped to the floor and crawled out of the room. His glasses saved his eyes, but his face was badly burned and his head swelled to twice its normal size. He was in Clinton Memorial Hospital for several days.

In 1961, he was diagnosed with diabetes by Dr. F. Mansel Dunn of Lansing and was on Orinase for several years. He had blood sugar tests regularly. In 1971 or 1972 he had one just before he went up smelt fising at Tawas City. He was cleaning the smelt the next day when Dr. Dunn's office called him and told him to report to Sparrow Hospital immediately for admitting because hes blood sugar count was over 500. When he got to the hospital, the admitting nurse couldn't believe he walked into the hospital. Normally he should have been in a diabetic coma. At this time he was started on insulin.

In 1973 he had another serious accident. He was pulling a back hoe down US 27 on his way to Cecil and Alta Mey's to do some work. A car hit him from behind and caused him to leave the road at Chadwick Road and US 27. The settlement was not even enough to make a down payment on another back hoe, so that put an end to that kind of work. The accident also affected his nerves and he was never the same.

In 1986 he had heart surgery to replace a faulty heart valve with one from a pig heart. He got along fairly well with this.

In 1989 or 1990, he burned his right foot on Thanksgiving Day with a kerosene heater. He ended up in the burn unit of Sparrow Hospital and eventually had to have part of his right foot amputated. He burned the other foot in the fall of 1991 and eventually had to have part of that amputated as well. From then on, one thing after another happened to George. His eyes went bad, he lost his hearing, had kidney failure, had several slight strokes and failed cataract surgery.
