  1. 1.  Robert Munro, of AldieRobert Munro, of Aldie was born in 1590 in Aldie, , Ross and Cromarty, Scotland; died on 6 Nov 1633 in Ulm, , Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

Robert Munro of Aldie was Commissary of Caithness. He may have served or accompanied Colonel Robert Munro of Foulis to the wars in Germany. He may have been Colonel Robert's regant at Nuremberg with Gustavus Adolphus' army in 1632.

He died of wounds received at Ulm in 1633.

Some references say that Robert was the son of John Mor, but John was actually Robert's great grandfather.

The Price reference says this Robert is the same person as Robert [19].

Some researchers say Robert was the son of Farquhar [2761], who was actually his grandfather.

"Robert is on record as 'fiar of Aldie' 1610 x 1616 and as 'Robert Monro of Aldie' 1616 x 1628, in latter also called Commissary of Caithness; he may have served in or accompanied Col Robert Munro of Foulis to the wars in Germany, as the chief's regt was at Nuremberg with Gustavus Adolphus's army in 1632. It has been supposed...that Robert's son William was the same William who d at Lexington, Mass, in Jan 1717 in 92nd year and had many descendants in USA. but definite proof is so far lacking."

    **********
«i»Aldie was one of the estates in Easter Ross. Like most estates the land was not in one parcel but in several bits as property was increased through purchase or marriage. Aldie was not one of the largest estates but it was quite an important one. The only information I have come across about a Munro of Aldie was that in 1628 a John Ross, merchant in Tain, bought Aldie from a Robert Munro but exactly who he was and when or how he acquired the land I don't know. From that point on descendents of John Ross owned the farm for almost 200 years. Then it was owned by other families but never again by a Munro. It eventually gradually got sold off a split up so does not exist as an estate any more.

As well as the estate and a farm of that name, there was an Aldie Burn which later becomes Tain River before flowing into the Dornoch Firth. Tain is situated on a raised beach beside the mouth of this small river. A series of mills were powered with the water from this burn the two main groups being High Mills and Aldie Mills.«/i»

Error alert: Some researchers say Robert was the father of William Munroe of Lexington (b. 1625). Others say William's father was Robert Munro of Aldie who married Isobel McKenzie.
