George and probably his brother, Jimmy, went to Tennessee in 1862. He settled near Athens, Tennessee. After serving in the Civil War in Kentucky and Tennessee, he married Isabelle Knott, the daughter of Andrew Knott. They moved to Knox County, Tennessee.
