    Artiss deVolt Zacharias

    Artiss deVolt Zacharias of St. Simons Island died Monday, 28 Aug at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Church Frederica with the Rev. Douglas Renegar officiating. Burial will follow in Christ church Cemetery.

    Pallbearers will be Ransom D. Braswell, William C. Smith, Art Batzig, Klaus Rieger, O.H. Olsen and Dyson Flanders.

    Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Hurley Jones, William Q. Walker, Joe Walters, members of the Brunswick chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and members of the Mozart Society.

    Mrs. Zacharias was a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She became a world renown harpist while studying at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She moved to Sea Island in 1956 following a lengthy residence in Boston. The local Mozart Society was founded by Mrs. Zacharias, and she was a past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

    The community recently honored Mrs. Zacharias with a legislative resolution for her dedication to music appreciation.

    She is survived by a nephew, John Zacharias of Marietta, and many friends.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Mozart Society's scholarship fund.

    Artiss married Robert Mathias Zacharias on 9 Aug 1952 in Salzburg, , , Austria. Robert was born about Oct 1886 in Chambersburg, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania, USA; died in Jan 1986. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
