  1. 1.  Raphael J. MonroeRaphael J. Monroe was born on 23 Sep 1843 in , Talladega Co., Alabama, USA; and died.

    Notes:

In 1860, Raphael was 16 years old, working as a laborer and living with his parents in Talladega County, Alabama.

On 22 Nov 1862, at Talladega, Alabama, he enlisted in Company H., 42nd Alabama Infantry, of the Confederate Army. On 14 Dec 1862, he signed for rations at Camp of Instructions in Talladega.

He must have been captured by the Union Army, because during Nov and Dec 1863, he was sick in the hospital in Vicksburg and was paroled by the Union Army on 13 Jul 1863 while he was still in the hospital. He signed the oath of allegiance on that date. He was then released to the Confederate authorities in Mobile at a later date. He may have died during the American Civil War.
