Ruth Keyes

Ruth married Hiram Munroe on 26 Dec 1839. Hiram (son of Thaddeus Munroe and Hannah Richardson) was born on 24 Mar 1799 in Hillsborough, Hillsborough Co., New Hampshire, USA; died on 28 May 1871 in Concord End, Hillsborough, New Hampshire. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Hazen enlisted as a private in Company A, 3rd Regiment in the infantry of the Vermont National Guard for three years. He mustered in on 16 Jul 1861 at St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He died at Camp Griffin of disease in 1862. The reference says he died at Camp Griffin, "Va.", but that is most likely supposed to be "Vt."

Notes:

Orvan and his wife moved to Liberty Prairie, Illinois in 1866. They lived there until 1881 when they moved to Whiting, Kansas.

Orvan worked in the cattle business and was the owner of a large livestock farm in Kansas. In his later years, his son, Roy, entered the business with him.

He served on the local school board for many years. He helped organize the local telephone company and served as its president for a long time. He belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church and served as a trustee for many years. He was prominent in the local political activities, and was an active and progressive leader. He had a large circle of friends and was held in high esteem by them.
