Notes |
- John filed an Upper Canada Land Petition dated 21 Apr 1795 stating that he was a Lieutenant in the New Jersey Volunteers in 1776 and was given a commission. After the war, he suffered a long and distressing imprisonment by the enemies of His Majesty's cause. Because of the loyalty of his father's family the estate was greatly depreciated and impaired. John requested a grant of land stating that he had a wife and two children. The Executive Council ordered him the usual allowance.
John lived initially in the Niagra District where he was a Justice of the Peace. On 25 Nov 1807 he purchased from Simon Mabee the south half of lot 24, Con2, Walsingham Twp. and made that his homestead. On 10 Mar 1819 he sold 75 acres of the lot to his son-in-law, William Gallaspy, followed by the other 25 acres on 22 Jul 1822.
