- On 5 Jul 1858, William was appointed by the Surrogate Court of Chenango County, New York, administrator of his father's estate. He was then living at or near the village of Homer in Washington Township, Licking County, Ohio. A letter dated 27 Jul 1885 from the widow of his deceased brother Alonzo to his brother Lerotus contains the statement: "Your brother William Monroe's family are all gone but two daughters."
