- Susan married George Washington Otis, M.D., the son of George Washington and Abigail (Cleverly) Otis. Dr. Otis graduated from Harvard University in 1818 when he was 18 years old. He studied medicine with Dr. John C. Warren and Dr. Abernathy in 1821. He had his private practice in Bowdoin Square, Boston Massachusetts General Hospital, and taught medicine to Oliver Wendell Holmes. He was Superintendent of the U.S. Marine Hospital in Chelsea from 1841 to 1843.
