- Jason was a farmer, and followed the shoemaker and cooper trades and various other kinds of business until 1847 when he and his family moved to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. He settled on a farm of eighty acres and had twenty acres in another section. The family lived in Lamartine, Wisconsin. Jason changed the spelling of his last name from Munroe to Monroe.
