  • Notes
    • David migrated to Pawlet, Vermont a few years after his brother, Josiah and sister, Lydia. Soon after his marriage, he settled at Cooperstown, New York. In about 1800 he moved to Penfield, New York. In 1836 he sold his farm and with his children went to Pittsford, Michigan. there he established a new homestead in Pittsford Township Sec. 28.

David was a large man and his strength was said to have been equal to that of any two of his neighbors. For many years he served as a deacon in the Baptist Church in Penfield. His granddaughter described him as "a noble man of Scot Descent, of generous impulse, and strong religious convictions."

David and his children overwintered the first year in a temporary shelter built into the side of a hill. The following year a cabin was built. A lilac bush stood by the front door and a snowball bush at the northwest corner of the home. David died that year.

His will bequeathed to his son, Lester, "the farm on which he now lives" designated as the west half of the N.E. quarter of Section 32 in Pittsford Township. To Linus he bequeathed the west half of the N.W. quarter of Section 28, Pittsford Township. To Philenda he gave all the household furniture and the lot of land 50A adjoining on the east.
