  Malcolm (or Malcom) obtained a land grant on 22 Apr 1763 (or 1760) for land in Drowning Creek, Moore County, North Carolina. Based on that, he probably immigrated from Scotland around 1760. He married the daughter of Archibald and Mary (Patterson) Patterson. Archibald and Mary were first cousins. Some references, including the John Monroe reference, call him Donald or Daniel Monroe. One reference suggests that he is the son of William Monroe [266] and Margaret Bowcock [267], but this is not proved and does not appear likely.
