- Daniel (or Donald) Munro was born in England or Scotland. Different references disagree on the birthplace but most are probably guesses.
He was a ship captain. He married Mary Ann Bateman in England before 1850. She was the daughter of Bill Bateman. They had three children--two sons and a daughter. Mary Ann brought the children to Iowa in 1855 or 1857 to join her family. The fate of Captain Munroe is not known. He did not go to Iowa with his wife and children.
The Webster reference says his wife, Mary was born in the West Indies and died in Scotland.
