  • Notes
    • Eoline was the 8th child born to James Archibald Monroe and his wife. She was born in the family home in Lumber Bridge, North Carolina. The first seven children were all boys. Her mother died in childbirth, or within two weeks of Eoline's birth. Her father was thus left with seven sons and an infant daughter.

James Archibald reluctantly arranged with his best friend, Lachlin (Lauchlin?) "Lock" Shaw, of St. Pauls, North Carolina, to adopt Eoline. She was raised as Eoline Peterson Shaw.

She married Dr. Robert H. Spiro, a Baptist minister. They were married in the St. Pauls Presbyterian Church. They moved to Ashville, North Carolian in 1920.

She died at the home of her son, Robert.
