• Notes

  Delos' parents both died of Typhoid Fever within a week of each other when Delos was young. He was raised by his uncle, Horatio Clarke. Delos used his inheritance to attend Weslyan University in Middletown, Connecticut and Wyoming Seminary. He followed in his fathers footsteps and became a Methodist Minister. He left the ministery in a dispute with the Methodist Church over the Mexican War, and became Editor of the Cincinnati Post. The family lived in several homes, especially Columbus, Ohio, where the homesite was later made into a parking lot. After leaving the ministry, he moved the family to Cincinnati into a big mansion on Hamilton Avenue. This building later became the Hodap Funeral Home. He studied astronomy as a hobby.
