- Simon (Samuel) is found on the 1871 census of Pictou county, Nova Scotia, Canada. He is listed as 8 years old and of Scotch origin. He lived with his family in Merigomish. They all belonged to the Church of Scotland.
He is found on the 1900 census of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. It says he immigrated to the U.S. in 1889 and was naturalized. His wife immigrated in 1887. He worked as a ship's carpenter.
The Perth Amboy census gives his birthdate as Aug 1861 which conflicts slightly with the earlier census.
