«i»Earl William Ross was the last of the medieval Celtic earls of Ross, of whom the Munros originally held their lands, and whose arms in the 14th century were three lions on a shield which was chargd on the breasts of a red eagle. The eagle had been adopted by the Ross clan to mark Buchan lands they had inherited from the Cummins and it was later added to the heraldic Galley of the Isles by the Macdonald chiefs who had inherited the earldom of Ross. The heraldic description of the armorial bearings is: on a shield or, an eagles's head erased, gules. The crest is an eagle on the perch, proper. Supporters are two eagles, proper.«/i»
