[Andrew Munro] «i»Son of Augustus Munro (c. 1823-1898) and Sarah Smith; born 1859; Young shipbuilder in Govan, became lecturer in naval architecture in Anderson's Technical College (said to be first in world on this subject), post which preceded chair of Naval Architecture at Glasgow University); pioneered construction of refrigerated ships; served with Lithgows, opened shipyard at Monfalcone near Trieste where built warships for Austrian Navy; interned in WWI, retired and re-engaged by Lithgows; manager of Glen Shipyard, Port Glasgow, retired 1924; died 1930, having married 1889 Elizabeth Gowans (Edinburgh) who died 1912, had three daughters Sophie Frances (died 1974), Augusta Smtih (died 1979, married Neil Flockhart), and Elizabeth (1896-1966, married A. Morison Broom, 1890-1979).
