Castletown, Caithness; entered Royal Navy in early youth and served as A.B.; while on Naval Reserve studied for and obtained master's certificate; sailed to almost every port in the world; retired 1902, and interested himself in photography and mechanical work; d. Aberdeen 19 Sep 12, aged 72.
