The following is a transcription of RW "Billy" Munro's notes:
      «i»
Mr. Munro, surgeons mate of the 77th Highlanders (Montgomeries) in the Cherokee War June, 1760 (also described as "Assistant Surgeon Munro) in neighborhood of Fort Prince George, on Keowee River (Georgia/South Carolina border). This surely can't be George Munro of Auchinbowie (1721-1793) who was already a surgeon, both regimental and staff (hospital) before this date). Up to 1796 surgeon's mates were appointed by colonel of the regiment and not commissioned. (Johnston's "Roll" intro xxiv, xxv). «/i»

«i»(Upper right corner) Not in ALs ( Army Lists). David Stewart "Sketches of the Highlanders)" 22nd edition i 339, 3rd edition i 350; Scots Magazine (1760) September, page 472; Keltie (J.S. Keltie, History of the Scottish Highlands 2 Volumes) ii 472, Browne iv 247; Munro Eagle vi 22-3 - something wrong here.
