The following obituary was written by Barbara's grandson, Herman E. Monroe, Sr. of Houston, Texas. The information came from the Monroe Family Bible, birth and death records of Wirt County, West Virginia, marriage records of Calhoun County, West Virginia and other certified records held by the author.

Barbara Ellen Bell, age 79, died at her daughter's home in Belle Valley, Ohio as a result of her diabetic condition, with uratic poisoning and conjestive heart trouble. She was brought home to be buried beside her husband, George A. Monroe since he preceded her in death by 18 years.

Barbara Ellen was the daughter of Mary Martha "Mollie" Bunner and Joshua D. Bell, born 17 Jan 1887 on Bell Run, Wirt County, West Virginia. She married George A. Monroe on 18 Sep 1901 at the courthouse in Grantsville, Calhoun County, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by two children, James and Gladie Monroe; three brothers, Valentine, Hiram, and Roscoe Bell; two sisters, Carrie Jean Wilcox and Alberta McIntire.

Barbara's funeral arrangements were conducted by the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Elizabeth, Wirt county, West Virginia.
