"Elizabeth Church was the daughter of the famous Indian fighter, Benjamin Church, who was the first white man to settle at Sakonnet (Little Compton) and later moved to Bristol. He was directly responsible for bringing the bitter war with King Philip to an end. He wrote an account of his military career, abbreviatedly called ENTERTAINING PASSAGES, which was published in 1716; and he has been made a leading character in a book of historical fiction by Noel B.
