Notes |
- The Beechers came from Kent, England in 1638, with a wealthy group of merchants and clergy from the London area, on the "Hector." Although they landed in Boston, religious strife there caused them to ship on to a small finghing-site the Dutch had called "Redmount," for their new colony they named "New Haven."
John Beecher, one of the founders, was left in a small cabin to guard the site with 6 other men several of whome lke he did not survive, due to improper shelter.
