  Jeff worked odd jobs most of his life near his siblings, Barney, Sarah, and Caroline in Hill County, Texas. He went to San Angelo, Texas to help his nephews, Luther and William, Jr., run a store the boys owned there. When both Luther and William, Jr. died suddenly, he stayed on to run the store. He became seriously ill and asked to be taken home to Canton, Texas. He died at Sarah Monroe Wells home soon after Lee Wells and Elmer Davis went to San Angelo to bring him home.
