- Neil's birth certificate in the Inverary, Scotland Old Parish Records reads as follows:
"[Neil]. lawful son to Archd. Munro, in Auchendrum, and Mary McVicar, his spouse, was Born 17th of January, and Baptized 20 January, 1809 years."
He lived in Inverary, Scotland for 14 years. His occupation is listed as tailor and journeyman on the marriage certificate of his son, Duncan, in 1867.
An entry in the 1851 census of Inverery, Scotland reads as follows:
"Inverary [no address specified] March 31st 1851 Neil Munro (Head), Married , 42, Labourer b. Thornfield, Argyllshire Elizabeth " (Wife), " , 44, Labourer's wife b. Minard Archibald " (Son) ,Unmarried, 14, Scholar b. Clenary Duncan " (Son) , " , 12, " b. " Elizabeth " (Dau.), " , 10, " b. " Mary " (Dau.), " , 7, " b. Inverery Peter " (Son) , " , 3, at home b. " "
His wife, Elizabeth's (or Betty), occupation is listed in 1851 as labourer's wife.
Neil's death certificate reads as follows:
"On November 7th 1855, 12:30pm, at Inverary, NEIL MUNRO (Labourer, married to Betty McKellar), died aged 47 years. Born: Clenary, 14 years in this district. Issue: 1. Archibald 19 years, 2. Duncan 17 years, 3. Betsy* 15 years, 4. Mary 12 years, 5. John (deceased at 4 months in 1847), 6. Peter 8 years. Parents: Archibald Munro, (Tailor - deceased), and Mary Munro m/s McVicar (deceased). Cause: Pleuro Pneumonia, 23 days, as certified by James Brack, Physician who saw deceased on 7th November 1855. Buried: Kilmallie Churchyard. Informant: Betty Munro, wife, present."

A standing sandstone marker in Kilmalieu & Inverary burial ground reads as follows:
"Erected by the family / in affectionate remembrance of their father, Neil Munro, who died 11th November 1855, 47 years."
