Notes |
- Eborn told his daughter, Nellie, that his father, Byram, used to talk about the "falling out" that his father, John had had with several members of the "second" family, I.e. the family of Capt. Andrew Munroe and Christian Tyler. He explained that it had something to do with land in Kentucky and possibly Virginia, and inheritance issues between the "1st and 2nd wives' children"; and that John's family (meaning the 1st wife's children) and his cousin President Monroe's family (meaning the 2nd wife's children) had "parted ways." The inheritance issues stemming from the "supposed" two wives of Captain Andrew Munroe - Christian Tyler and the 1st wife who died young.
The story goes that Byram didn't like to let people know he was the former President's second cousin because of the family feud, and he never told anyone the full story before he died, though he apparently always commented on "that second family's pretentious airs!"
