  • Notes
    • Daniel was born in Scotland and became a soldier in Colonel Montgomery's 77th Highland Regiment for seven years during the French War in America. He remained in America after his discharge and never became literate.

He settled in Albany County, New York, but remained loyal to the crown when the American Revolution started. He was accused of disloyalty by the Albany Committee of the Districts of Manor, Livingston, Schageteckocke and Half-Moon, which resolved that he be sent under guard with other accused, to the Committee of the Convention of the State of New York.

He would not join the rebels and in 1777 was frequently fined and put in prison about a week. In 1780, he got into the British lines and continued there in government service as a laborer in the wood and forage yard until the end of the war.

After the war, he left his 200 acres and cattle etc. in New York Provence, and settled in Shelbourne, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Daniel is called the Father of the Black Watch Regiment in Boston, but that is probably misinformation. His family is sometimes confused with that of his son, Donald.

Some references say that he was a son of John Munro and Katherine Reed, but that is not likely.
