  • Notes
    • The name on Ada's birth certificate is Aedna Inez Monroe. At the top of the birth certificate is written in cursive "Edna". Ada is her maternal grandmother's name and is believed to be the name her parents intended.

At the time of Ada's birth, her father had been released or resigned as pastor of the local Baptist Church. He had made a pact with the church when he was called as pastor that they would share the produce from their farms or livelihood with his family. As the depression deepened, the produce reduced to an unsustainable amount.

Ada was born prematurely and lived only two days. Her mother had to dress her for the funeral and her father helped construct the casket of saw mill slats (pieces of material left over as a log was sawed into lumber.) The grave filled with water from rain, making it necessary for the casket to be weighted in order for it to go to the bottom of the grave before the grave could be filled in. Her father preached the funeral sermon or eulogy.
