• Notes

  George was the son of George Columbus Monroe and his first wife. He told his children that he was placed in an orphanage, but was unhappy there. He went to live with Steven Lafitte Monroe, who was only four years older than he was. There is a marriage record of a George Monroe marrying a Mary Dixon on 7 Mar 1900, but it is not known whether this is the same George Monroe.
