- Error alert: Some researchers have confused this Samuel Monroe with another Samuel Munroe, son of William Munroe and Deborah Pope.
Samuel served with four of his brothers in Company B, 114th Regiment, New York Volunteers in the US Civil War. He died in an army hospital in Louisiana.
