  ********** «i»Hugh Montgomery Steuart was born about 1753 in Ayrshire, Scotland and died 7 Feb 1820 in Washington, D.C. where he had been a very well known and reputable merchant. His will, although dated 4 Sep 1781, was presented 22 Mar 1820. I leave my wife Ann Steuart all my Estate of any kind whatsoever with no other incumbrance than that of paying my Just Debts. So help me God. Wits.: Reginald Graham, John Downing; William Steuart attests to handwriting. Bk.3, p. 52(62); O.S. 806, Box 6 I believe the spelling problem «/i»[of the surname] «i»is a result of a newspaper advertisement about the probate - From the Washington Gazette, 4-26-1820 Notice This is to give notice, that the subscriber has obtained from the Orphan's Court of Washington county, in the District of Columbia, letters of administration with the will annexed on the personal estate of Hugh Stewart, late of Washington county, deceased. All persons having claims against the deceased are hearby warned to exhibit the same, with the vouchers thereof, to the subscriber, at or before the 22d day of March next; they may otherwise, by law, be excluded from all benefit of the said estate. Given under my hand, this 22d day of March, 1820.
