    • Thomas was a lawyer and served as Mayor of Lexington, Kentucky. He was Secretary of State under Magoffin in 1859. He was still serving in that office when he entered the Confederate service as a major in the 4th Kentucky Infantry.

      When Kentucky was admitted to the Confederacy on 10 Dec 1861, Thomas was elected as one of the deputies to the Provisional Congress and was the first Kentucky representative to take his seat at Richmond (16 Dec.).

      He served as a Major in the 4th Kentucky Infantry of the Confederate States and was killed in action during the American Civil War.
