- John, and a number of other men from Uist, went to Fort George and joined the 78th Regiment. He was present at the battle of Madia, and was with Sir Ralph Abercromby in Egypt. He was a brave soldier and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He was killed at the taking of Batavia, Java in 1811. He was not married.
