  • Notes 
    • George studied for the ministry at the University, and King's College in Aberdeen where he obtained his M.A. degree in 1767, the same year as his brother Hugh. He was licensed on 28 Sep 1770 by the Presbytery of Uist and ordained by the same body in 1771. He was then sent as a missionary to Benbecula.

      In Feb 1773, he was presented by King George III to the parish of South Uist, and admitted there on 2 Apr.

      The Presbytery suspended him on 11 Apr 1780, but the sentence of suspension was removed on 16 Dec 1781.

      On 28 Apr 1818, he was appointed to serve as one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace, a post he held until his death in 1832. He was 90 years old.

George Munro, min. of South Uist (1743-1832, of Erriboll branch) and Marion Macdonald; Ensign 1st Foot (Royal Scots) 6 Oct 1815; h.p. 25 March 1816 on reduction of 4th Bn; granted permission to live in West Indies 28 July 1817 (W.O.25.3232); Ensign 26th Foot 31 May 1826; Lieut. 16th Foot 26 Apr 1828; Capt 1 July 1841; Major 21 Apr 1854; Lt Colonel 18 Apr 1856; remained on full pay as Major 16th Foot; d. unm. at 57 North Hanover Street, Edinburgh, 20 Apr 1863, & buried Greyfriars churchyard in ground belonging to mother's family (M's of Boisdale).
