Notes |
- Isabelle was a native of Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA. She attended Pleasant Beach School there and graduated from the old Winslow High School in 1924. While in High School, she participated in debate and, in her senior year, played the lead in the school play, "Peg of My Heart." In 1940, she also played a leading part in the PTA play "Aaron Slick from Pumpkin Creek."
She graduated from Wilson's Modern Business College in Seattle in 1925.
During the Depression, she took a leading role in getting a school lunch program started at Pleasant Beach School. She took her own pots and pans to the school. She was serving as secretary of the Parent Teachers Association at the time.
Isabelle was a teacher at the Bremerton Business College, but during World War II, she worked as a stenographer in the Personnel Department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She enjoyed writing poetry, knitting, crocheting, gardening and canning.
She and George lived in Crystal Springs for 41 years and then built a home at Fletcher's Bay. Ref. (3) says that she and her husband were living in Port Blakely in 1952.
When she died, Isabelle had nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
