2, John, who was born in 1801, and succeeded his brother in 1856. He was educated at the High School of Edinburgh, and East India College, Hayleybury; was subsequently for some time in the Bengal Civil Service; and a member of the Supreme Council of India. On his return to Scotland, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Stirling. In 1823 he married Louisa, daughter of John Fendall of the Bengal Civil Service, with issue--five sons and five daughters.
