Notes |
- James was chosen deacon of the First Church in Cambridge on 30 Jun 1783, and continued in that office until his death. A blacksmith by trade, he was appointed armorer by the Provincial Congress in 1775 and acted in that capacity for a long time.
He built and lived in a house that stood on Brattle Street near Mason Street. His blacksmith's shop was on the corner of Mason Street and Phillips Place.
He was very sociable and noted for his musical talents, being a fine singer. He often led the church choir.
His first wife, Lucy, was from Cambridge, Massachusetts. His second wife, Sarah, was the widow of Torrey Hancock.
