  Jonas appeared in Surry about March 1792, moved from Surry about 1796 and in 1799 was living in Bridgewater, New York (Vermont?). His first wife, Cynthia, was from Surry, New Hampshire. His second wife, Hannah, was from Surry or possibly Marlboro, New Hampshire. ********** The following is from the Spencer reference: «i»http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida/ which lists names in a Bridgewater Cemetery called Benham : ... Monroe, James (might be Jonas) died Feb. 28, 1834 age 64 yrs 1 mo (stone broken) ... There are many early records of land sales by members of the Monroe family. The earliest is a record dated 21 Jan 1799 for land sold by Abraham Munroe to James Benham. Jonas Monro and Samuel Munrow appear in 1803, and Jacob Monroe in 1807. I'm not sure whether these were the dates that the land was sold, or the dates that the deeds were recorded (which could have been years later)... Jonas (2) Munroe (Philip 1) was here m. 1792; removed from Surry about 1796, and in 1799 was living at Bridgewater, NY (not Vt as indicated). He married in Surry, Oct. 4, 1791 Cynthia Dart, who died in Surry Jan. 22, 1796, dau. of ELIPHALET DART OF SURRY; m. (2) in Surry Feb. 5, 1799 Hannah Phips of Surry (or possibly Marlboro). Children born in Surry by 1st wife Cynthia: (1) Luther, b. Dec 13, 1791; (2) Prudence, b. Dec 9, 1793; d. Dec 10, 1793; (3) Cynthia, b.
