Notes |
- Jessie attended school in Sioux Falls, Iowa. After graduating, she worked as an artist in a downtown studio where she met Elmer Austin. After they were married, they moved to Indianapolis; Detroit; Ipsilanti, Michigan; Chicago and then to Storm Lake, Iowa.
After ten years of marriage, Elmer died of pheumonia leaving Jessie destitute with two small children. In March 1909, she moved to Phillips, South Dakota where her widowed mother had a millinary store and was a dressmaker.
Jessie was a musician and artist. At the age of 88, she exhibited paintings at a Long Beach, California Hobby Show. She was featured as the oldest exhibitor and was asked to show her paintings the next year.
She held several offices in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the U.S. Daughters of the War of 1812, and the Daughters of the American Colonies.
