- Leonard served during the American Civil War in the 171st Pennsylvania Militia, Company A, from Nov 1862 to Aug 1863.
He practiced medicine in Austinville, a village in Columbia Township, Bradford County,Pennsylvania for about two years starting about 1867. He then bought his father's farm in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania and practiced medicine from his farm home while operating a successful 440 acre farm.
Even in his time from 1865 to 1920, Leonard had good success in treating rheumatic fever, grippe or influenza, pink eye, diptheria, appendictis, pneumonia and other maladies and injuries. His treatement in part for his own heart was moderate exercise. He lived to be 87 years old.
