    • In 1829, Henry's parents moved from Bristol, Rhode Island to Columbia Flats (later renamed Sylvania), Pennsylvania.

      Henry worked as a teacher before he was married, but was a farmer for most of his life. He was elected treasurer of Tioga County, Pennsylvania in 1861. He also served as a member of the school board and was elected Justice of the Peace three times. He belonged to the Episcopal Church.

      In 1864, he carried $50,000 in a stachel to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to pay some Civil War soldiers.
