**********
«i»Frederidck Mitchell Munroe, of this village, great-grandson of Col. William Munroe, not long ago presented to the Lexington Historical Society the lignum vitae morter with its hickory pestle used in the tavern during the early Indian days for grinding samp and an order from General Washington instructing Col. Munroe to convene a courtmartial.
It is interesting to note in this connection that the other great-grandfather of Mr. Munroe, Captain Hall, of the Medford militia, was first notified of the British approach by Paul Revere on his famous ride to Lexington and that this is commemorated by a tablet set into the wall of one of the three original Hall houses at Medford by the Daughters of the Revolution.«/i»
