Notes |
- Mary's husband, Lawrence F. Reifsnider, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1910. He served with the U.S. Amphibious Forces, Pacific, throughout World War II. As a Captain, he commanded Transport Division 10 which conducted landing operations training at Auckland, New Zealand, just before the Guadalcanal operation. He was Commander Amphibious Forces, South Pacific, in the Guadalcanal and Russell Islands operations.
E. J. King grudgingly permitted his promotion to commodore in 1943. As a commodore, he was Commander Amphibious Group 4 in the Marianas operation. After being promoted to rear admiral, he was Commander, Northern Attack Force, Task Force 53, in the Okinawa operation.
Upon his retirement on 1 Dec 1949, he was promoted to vice admiral. During his Naval career, he received the Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Cross with two stars, and the Legion of Merit. ("Amphibians Came to Conquor" by Vice Admiral George Dyer)
