- William was the printer and then editor of Evansville, Indiana's first newspaper, the "Gazette". The paper failed financially in 1824. In 1822-3, he bought five city lots at a tax sale. He sold the five lots in 1824 to Amos Clark. The last record found of William Monroe was in Apr 1825.
