- In 1829, James was a minor child of Polly McGary. On 2 Nov 1829 there is an action in the Vanderburgh County Probate Court assigning Robert McEvans as James' guardian. Polly McGary and Robert McEvans had married 7 Sep 1826.
The conjecture is that James was the son of Polly and an unknown Monroe who died. Polly subsequently married a McGary and then Robert McEvans.
